How can I treat mouth ulcers?

Mouth ulcers 

Mouth ulcer is a common problem nowadays. Nearly 30% of people are suffering from sever mouth ulcer which occurs repeatedly. 

Mouth ulcer generally occurs due to poor digestion or GIT problems, internal body heat or hormonal changes or imbalance. 

Mouth ulcer occurs much painful sometimes, can disturb our work even sometimes we can't speak properly. 

Major chunk of people uses medicines, creams, mouth wash. Obviously it works but it's not a permanent solution. 

If there are bleeding from your ulcer region then it may a sign of any serious problem or also it may leads to cancer, So in this case you must consult to doctor. 

But don't worry, All ulcers are not Cancerous, but some major type of mouth sore can leads to cancer. 

For understanding of Severity of mouth sore it is divided into three types :-

1. Herpetiform ulceration (HU)
2. Minor Ulcer
3. Major Ulcer

Causes of mouth ulcer :-

1]. Intake of over spicy foods (ushna virya aahara according to ayurveda) and sometimes incompatible foods makes your digestive system weak and becomes cause of ulcer. 

2]. If you are not following proper oral hygiene and do not clean your teeth properly then it may be cause of mouth ulcer. 

3]. Deficiency of iron and vit-B Complex is also reason of mouth ulcer. 

4]. Mouth ulcer may occurs during fever or during pregnancy. 

5]. Use of toxic toothpaste :-

It's a general cause of mouth ulcer nowadays, because most of tooth paste contains harmful chemicals which damages the cells of your oral cavity. 

Mainly it contains SLS (Sodium Lauryl Sulphate) and Fluoride which is common cause of mouth ulcer. 

SLS is registered as an insecticide and regular use may leads to heart, kidney or liver problems after long time. 

If your tooth paste contains fluoride, then be careful, Surely Dentist recommended but you should know that ingesting just 2.8 gm Fluoride can kill a 50 kg adult, better switch to herbal tooth paste which one is SLS and fluoride free.

6]. Some clinical conditions :-

Some clinical or pathological conditions may a cause of mouth ulcer or sore like... 

• Leukoplakia
• Erythroplakia
• Lichen Planus
• Candidiasis
• Herpes simplex
• Oral Cancer 
• Chronic canker sores
• Gingivostomatitis
• Autoimmune diseases

How to cure it at home :-

( kindly note that this article has not much relation with Ayurveda, ayurveda is the medical science so it never recommend to treat nay thing at home.so bear it in your mind. ) 

1. Add a powder of liquorice root in honey and apply the paste on the ulcer and just after 5 to 10 minutes drip off the saliva.It will work amazingly on ulcer. 

2.Chew 2-3 leaves of Malabar nut (Justicia adhatoda) it will help you instant relieve.

3. Add honey in lemon juice and just gargle it.It will helps to remove infection from oral cavity and makes it germs free. You can also use butter milk Instead of lemon juice and honey. 

4. Drink too much water (as much as you can drink) and keep your body and oral cavity hydrated. 

5. Develop a habit of having a piece of jaggery daily after meal. It will make your digestive system strong which is root cause of mouth ulcer. 

When you should consult doctor? 

People who repeatedly get mouth ulcers may find it difficult to know that, when to see a doctor.

There are some situations,signs or symptoms, however, where a person should see a doctor as soon as possible. 

Some of these are :-

• the appearance of a non-painful ulcer in one or more areas of the mouth
• unusual ulcers that appear in a new spot in the mouth
• ulcers that are spreading
• ulcers lasting longer than 3 weeks.

Develop some good habits like.. 

• Eat a healthy and balanced diet
• Avoid spicy and acidic food and beverage
• Brush gently
• Drink plenty of water
• Adopt means to reduce stress
• Have a proper sleep

Do and Don'ts for mouth ulcer:-

Do

• use a soft-bristled toothbrush
• drink cool drinks through a straw
• eat softer foods
• get regular dental check-ups
• eat a healthy, balanced diet

Don’t

• do not eat very spicy, salty or acidic food
• do not eat rough, crunchy food, such as toast or crisps
• do not drink very hot or acidic drinks, such as fruit juice
• do not use chewing gum
• do not use toothpaste containing sodium lauryl sulphate
