The Institute of Medicine has concluded that the condition, now called 'myalgic encephalomyelitis/chronic fatigue syndrome (ME/CFS)' is a serious, chronic, complex systemic disease that often can profoundly affect the lives of patients.

Every year on May 12, World Chronic Fatigue Syndrome Awareness Day is organized to commemorate Florence Nightingale on her birthday. From 1857 until his death in 1910, he suffered from chronic fatigue syndrome, such as Chronic Fatigue Syndrome (CFS) or Fibromyalgia.

The modern purpose of the day is to create awareness among the people about the causes, symptoms and methods of prevention associated with this incurable medical condition.

What is Chronic Fatigue Syndrome (CFS)?

What is chronic fatigue syndrome

Chronic Fatigue Syndrome (CFS) is a chronic health condition characterized by extreme fatigue or fatigue that does not go away even after rest and can last for more than six months. Limits one's ability to perform daily tasks.

CFS is also called Myalgic Encephalomyelitis (ME), and the exact cause of fatigue is still unknown.

The quality of life of a person with CFS may be compromised.

World Chronic Fatigue Syndrome Day aims to improve the quality of life of the people affected and to secure treatment facilities for various health care organizations.

Some people with chronic fatigue syndrome (CFS) are able to work and have a job that is flexible and meets their needs.

However, if you have CFS and are unable to work, you can apply for disability benefits through the Social Security Administration (SSA) .

ME/CFS during COVID pandemic

ME / CFS and COVID-19: What We Know?

The CDC has been working to learn more about coronavirus infection (COVID-19) and the health effects we have on humans.

As the COVID-19 epidemic continues, it is clear that some people who once had COVID-19 may not recover immediately. Instead, they develop chronic illnesses (called post-COVID conditions).

Many symptoms of people with post-COVID conditions include extreme fatigue, headaches, brain fog, difficulty sleeping, and anxiety or depression.

Learning about the long-term effects of COVID-19 can help researchers understand ME / CFS, and what we know about ME / CFS can help people with long-term COVID.

Currently, there are limited details and limitations. The CDC is working with our partners to better understand the long-term effects of COVID-19 and to find ways to help people with long-term COVID.
